Koori Mail
The Voice of Indigenous Australia Website
Koori Mail engaged Little Rocket to help transform their website into a full digital platform, where people can subscribe and read the latest about First Nations news, sports and culture.
The former Koori Mail site was a place where readers could engage with some select headlines and stories, with the aim being to direct users towards a physical paper subscription, or the digital PDF reader edition of Koori Mail. The new model needed to expand the offering, providing readers with the opportunity to engage with articles directly on the site across a range of topics. Additionally, the new site was designed with responsive in mind, allowing for a mobile specific version which was previously absent. Another integral component of the project was also updating the backend processes to allow for smoother administration and management of content and subscriptions.
Little Rocket updated the site with a more cohesive visual language designed for digital use. The design incorporates the original artwork and totems from Koori Mail’s existing brand, created by We Are 27 Creative. A new account system allows readers to fully manage their subscriptions, while providing key access for staff to manage the site. The jobs board, event booking system, advertiser page and, crucially, subscription information and signup page all received significant front-end and back-end updates.
This results in a new experience that makes it easier for readers to access digital content while preserving existing offerings and Koori Mail’s familiar identity as a brand, platform and community hub.

About the client
Established in May 1991, the Koori Mail is a fortnightly national newspaper reporting on the issues that matter to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. They give Indigenous Australians a voice that’s often missing in the mainstream media. The Koori Mail is and has always been 100% Aboriginal-owned.
