For the second year running, the Australian Grand Prix Corporation (AGPC) engaged Little Rocket to lead First Nations engagement at the 2025 Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix.

Held at Albert Park, on the sacred lands of the Bunurong people, this year’s programming focused on deeply embedding Bunurong culture into the heart of the event.

Over the four-day event, we delivered three major art and cultural activations:

1. Our Bunurong Ancestors by Kobi Sainty
Bunurong artist Kobi Sainty was commissioned to create Our Bunurong Ancestors – a powerful installation of eucalyptus trees painted in tribute to five apical ancestors of the Bunurong people. Positioned near the main stage, the trees invited attendees to walk among them during the day and experience them illuminated at night, offering a moving visual and cultural experience.

2. Race Cube: Eel Harvest Season
The Race Cube, a premium hospitality space, took on the theme Eel Harvest Season, curated in collaboration with the Bunurong community. The space featured handcrafted eels, fish, birds, and traditional eel traps suspended from the ceiling, all woven by local Elders and community members. Listening lilies were installed to share audio stories of the Eel Harvest Season, allowing guests to hear Bunurong voices narrate their cultural heritage. The experience was further enhanced with native eucalyptus trees and projected imagery of local waterways across the ceiling, immersing guests in story and place.

3. Weaving Workshops with Aunty Dyan Summers and Aunty Melissa
Attendees were invited to participate in four weaving workshops led by respected community Elders Aunty Dyan Summers and Aunty Melissa. These sessions offered a space for connection, conversation, and hands-on learning in the traditional First Nations practice of weaving. All pieces created were later assembled into a larger collaborative artwork, now proudly displayed by AGPC.

It was an honour to once again partner with AGPC and bring Bunurong stories to the global stage, showcasing the strength, beauty and resilience of First Nations culture in the heart of Naarm.
