Ground Lease Model artwork integration
Ground Lease Model (GLM1) is a first-of-its-kind in Victoria, delivering social, affordable and market rental homes that honour First Nations storytelling.
With construction underway and residents due to move in less than a year, Icon engaged Little Rocket to integrate artwork across three sites (Flemington, Prahran and Brighton). The goal? To make new residents feel at home while fostering a deeper sense of belonging within the wider community.
We knew First Nations voices needed to be at the heart of the project. We led an extensive co-design process, self-determined by artists, designers, Traditional Owners and other stakeholders, to deliver a detailed artwork integration and wayfinding strategy. We wanted to decolonise the built environment by providing residents and visitors opportunities to engage, learn and connect with the history of the physical place.
The final application was extensive, including murals, digital interpretation, vinyl decals, pavement artwork, building entrance artwork, playground integration and more. Our bespoke wayfinding systems created a culturally safe and inclusive space that residents could easily navigate. We hope these stories will spark important conversations and foster a greater sense of respect and belonging among residents and the community for years to come.
