NAIDOC Week 2024

Following two successful years in 2022 and 2023. Little Rocket was engaged for a third year by Lendlease to deliver an engaging and culturally meaningful NAIDOC Week activation across 15 commercial buildings in Melbourne (Narrm) and Sydney (Gadigal).

The 2024 theme, “Keep the Fire Burning! Blak, Loud and Proud,” inspired a range of interactive and artistic experiences designed to honor First Nations culture and foster tenant engagement.

Each building’s lobby featured a striking interactive red flame installation. Visitors were invited to contribute to the activation by adding stickers to the flame, answering the question, “How will you keep the fire burning?” These flames became powerful visual representations of community commitment and reflection.

To further engage tenants, we designed custom lapel pins inspired by Lendlease’s NAIDOC Week artwork. These pins were distributed as a symbol of solidarity and pride, encouraging participants to wear them during NAIDOC Week and beyond. Digital screens across the sites featured a rotating gallery of works by First Nations artists from across Australia. Each screen was paired with a QR code linking to an online microsite, where tenants could explore the featured artists’ stories and purchase their artwork.

In larger lobbies, we introduced a second interactive flame, inviting local First Nations artists in Naarm and Gadigal to live-paint these installations during NAIDOC Week. These live-painting sessions added a dynamic element to the activations, creating collaborative storytelling pieces that grew over the week. The artists were supplied with materials from Jiga Jiga Paint, a First Nations-owned supplier. The larger lobbies also featured curated exhibitions of First Nations artwork, including canvas paintings and traditional weaving. These stunning works highlighted the diversity and richness of First Nations’ artistic expression, with all pieces available for purchase through the microsite.

Through interactive elements, live art, and digital showcases, Lendlease’s commitment to celebrating and amplifying First Nations voices was powerfully realised.

“First of all, thank you so much for everything you created for the Lendlease Office Portfolio campaign. It was truly special and genuinely felt like a positive step towards genuine reconciliation and First Nations inclusion and advocacy. Something we’re really proud of.”
